Dear Dr. Lui, My name is Kyle Gilmore and I am very excited this year because I am finally a senior. Since the first time I walked into Boston Latin School, I have wanted nothing more than to be a senior. Being a senior is a very big deal to me. It means that all of my hard work in seventh, eighth, ninth, tenth, and eleventh grade has paid off. This year I plan to make more friends and more solid connections with people so when I am older and I see people that I went to highschool with I will be able to talk to them and reminisce about old times. It never hurts to have too many friends! With that being said, I am also going to focus on school more than ever. I want to get into as many colleges as I can so I will have a plethora of options. To focus on school I plan to get out of summer mode as quickly as I can. When reading is assigned I plan to do it thoroughly so I can receive the best grade possible on my reading quizzes and be able to participate in class discussions. I plan to come prepared to class every day and be ready to work from the moment I walk into class until the moment I leave class. Besides school, I have a very active personal life. I spend a lot of my time volunteering at my local hockey rink teaching younger kids how to skate and play hockey. Every single day of the week you can find me in a hockey rink. Last year I played on three hockey teams, but this year I plan to play on only two. I made the boy’s varsity hockey team last season, but decided to play junior varsity to have more time to focus on school. This year I would like to play on the junior varsity team again, but there is a rule that senior students are not allowed to play on any teams lower than varsity. Varsity has been my goal since I was a little kid, but if I play varsity I will have less time for academics. I plan to play for my town’s half and full season teams this year so I can stay active and play the sport I love and cherish. I attended Holy Name Parish School from kindergarten to sixth grade. There I learned the basics of becoming a smart, responsible, and respectful person. My mother works at Holy Name and made it more enjoyable while I was there. She always volunteered for class parent, field trips, and took every opportunity she could to help. This inspires me to help and give back to my community, even after I am grown up. I have a relatively small family. My older brother, Jason, lives at college. He attends Massachusetts College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences, which is right beside Boston Latin School. He enjoys college and is planning on becoming a nurse anesthetist. Although he is only 2 years older than me, he helps coach my full and half season hockey teams. For most of my childhood he was on my hockey team, but when he became too old for our town league, he stepped up and became a certified coach. This was very impressive that even though he could have stopped with the league like everyone else, he decided to give back to the community that gave him such a great opportunity to play sports and be a team player. After Boston Latin School, I plan to go to college for four years. Then, when I have my bachelor’s degree, I am going to join the United States Marine Corps. After my time of serving our country, my next step is to become a Boston Police Officer or a Boston Firefighter. My father is a Marine and a Boston Police Officer. He is a very big reason of why I plan to follow in his footsteps. He has been a very good role model my entire life. My family has played a very important role in my life. They have taught me how to be a good person, and nothing is more important than being a good person. I hope this year I can show you that I am a good person and a great student! Sincerely, Kyle Gilmore This is my blog about my Chinese Comprehension class.
